Inviting kids to weddings can be a little bit tricky. We all have family and friends that have kids, but a few of them might come with a little extra energy or mischievousness. How can we make the kids feel welcome, but also ensure that they behave? Let's talk about some tips on navigating the presence of kids at your local wedding venue.
Make Them Feel Special
Kids love to feel special, I mean really, we all do! Once way to make kids feel special and welcome at your wedding is making them feel like special guests. You could do this by organizing a kids' table where they can color, or make crafts. Maybe add some candy or games? This will give them something to do in the "down-time"One way to ensure kids behave at weddings is by making them feel like special guests. Consider organizing a kids' table where they can enjoy age-appropriate activities, coloring books, and maybe even some treats to keep them entertained throughout the event. When kids feel included and engaged, they are less likely to act out.
Engage Them in the Ceremony
To keep kids entertained and ensure their good behavior during the ceremony, consider involving them in a special way. Maybe assign the a special job such as walking guests to their seats, or passing out wedding favors. Kids love to feel important and involved, so giving them a job to look forward to may encourage good behavior!
Set Expectations Early
Communication is key when it comes to kids at weddings, and talking to kids in general. Let your little humans know how special the event is, and that good behavior is very important.
Create a Kid-Friendly Environment
Ensure the wedding venue is kid-friendly by setting up a designated play area or providing entertainment suitable for children. Create a "kids corner" filled with crafts and games so that children can find ways to stay busy throughout dinner.
Embrace the Unpredictability
Kids will be kids! While we can try our best to ensure kids behave at weddings, sometimes unexpected moments happen - let it happen! I always tell my couples not to stress about whether the flower girls will walk down the aisle, or if the toddler ring-bearer will act up. Kids are precious, and people will think they are cute no matter what. I promise - it will still create great pictures and memories!
Until next time...
